3D Modeling and Manufacturing Drawings for Complex Casting, Machining, and Sheet Metal Assemblies (Solid & Surface Modelling)
The Way We executed the Project
Client: Leading Global Manufacturer in Industrial Equipment
Industry: Industrial Products and Manufacturing
Services: 3D Modeling, Manufacturing Drawings, Surface Modeling, Sheet Metal Design, Complex Assembly with Multiple Variants,
Project Background
Our client, a major manufacturer in the industrial equipment sector, needed comprehensive 3D modeling and manufacturing drawings for several critical components, including casted and machined parts, complex sheet metal designs, and assemblies with multiple product variants. The project involved creating high-precision models to meet stringent quality and performance requirements. In addition, surface modeling was required for volute and impeller designs, which involved processing 3D point cloud data.
Our Scope
Our scope covered a wide range of activities, from 3D CAD modeling of complex casting and machining parts to surface modeling, creating detailed manufacturing drawings, and developing complex assemblies with multiple design variants. We also collaborated closely with the client to ensure the final designs met all performance, manufacturability, and cost criteria.
Key Tasks Included
1. 3D Modeling for Complex Castings and Machining:
- Developed highly detailed 3D CAD models for various casting and machined parts using SolidWorks.
- Ensured high dimensional accuracy in models by incorporating GD&T standards, and verifying all critical features were appropriately modeled for manufacturability.
2. Surface Modeling from 3D Point Data (Volute & Impeller):
- Utilized 3D point cloud data to create highly accurate surface models for volutes and impellers.
- Applied advanced surface modeling techniques to convert point cloud data into smooth, manufacturable surfaces.
- Ensured the final designs met the aerodynamic and flow performance criteria specified by the client.
3. Sheet Metal Design and Detailing:
- Designed and developed 3D models for complex sheet metal parts, ensuring adherence to manufacturability standards and reducing material waste.
- Created detailed flat patterns and provided manufacturing drawings for efficient production.
4. Complex Assembly Modeling with Multiple Variants:
- Modeled complex assemblies involving multiple configurations and design variants, ensuring seamless integration of all parts and subsystems.
- Created parametric designs to allow quick adjustments for variant management, reducing design turnaround times for future updates.
5. Manufacturing Drawings and Documentation:
- Generated detailed 2D manufacturing drawings with full tolerancing, material specifications, and machining instructions.
- Released final documentation packages, including Bill of Materials (BOMs), for production.
- Collaborated with the client’s manufacturing team to ensure the drawings and models were production-ready and optimized for cost-effective manufacturing.
